the violets I am just learning to grow %26amp; they flower beautifully. Unfortunelty like most plants I have problems. A few of my violets have started getting this yellowish/brown spots on most of the leaves..What is this caused from? I water my violets once a week if they need it, and every time I water I use a fertiler called Schultz 8-14-9 African Violet plus. 8 drops per Quart of water. Any help will greatly be appreciated

All other answers are true...
to add to that, it can be water spots, if you water from top.
try to make it soak in water as much as they need by using saucers.
also, too much sun and cause spots.
Happy growing =)

Reply:Stop the weekly liquid fertilization immediately!! By hand remove any leaf that is spotted. Do this throughout the growing season. You also want to remove any dead flowers, by hand, weekly.
Go to a local nursery and purchase a 10-10-10 with mineral granular fertilizer. It is cheap and will last your purposes for two or more years!! Apply the fert around the base of the plant and extend it to four or more inches from the base. Do not get on the plant. Water in immediately. Purchase a Safer Soap Pesticide solution. This is if you are given to non chemical applications. Chemical application would be with a solution of Liquid Sevin.
Your chemical application is directed toward the root development and completely unbalanced. Healthy plants, when established need balanced ferts. Use the 10-10-10 with minerals in early spring, mid-summer, and again in October. You will see the difference once the rain begins to activate the fert.
To save monies you may wish to mist the plants with a simple solution of 1 Tblsp of Pure Ivory Liquid Dish Detergent /quart. It works wonders on insects and apply it about every three weeks. With one bottle you have enough for the season and can do the Thanksgiving Dishes as well.
Good Luck.
Reply:Possibly too much fertilizer. Fertilize for 3 weeks, then the fourth week let them soak in plain water to flush the excess fertilizer, after soaking water letting the water run thru' the plant pot.
Reply:check the Ph..of your water if it's too high you will have bring it down and if it's to low you will need to bring it up and also usually yellowish brown spots on leaves means over watering or too much iron in the water..cut back on the feeding..and there is a rule of thump when it comes to watering..if you have a one gallon flower pot you should only put less than half a gallon of water..i have been growing for a long time .and usually yellowing of leaves is a sign of iron or too much water..and change your fertilizer to a 10-52-10 and use alot less..and also get a food supplement called "carbo load" it's sugar that plants that need.when they don't get enough natural direct sunlight..
