Is indigo deep blue or violet?

indigo is 2/3 of blue and 1/3 of red

Is indigo deep blue or violet?
Value wise Indigo is a strong dark. Even in Watercolor tubes by different manufacturers it will vary a little to the cool or warm side. What will help you decide is what you put it next to like a red or carmine is going to make it appear more blue. If you put it next to cerrulian or Sap green, it will take on a more violet cast.
Reply:indigo color, more so blue, with incandescent lighting you can go violet or sometimes green tones, mainly blue,

..
Reply:it's definetly deep blue...but it also depends on what color are you using and if its an oil, acrlylic, watercolor, ink etc etc....
Reply:kind of a mix
Reply:Indigo is the color on the spectrum between about 450 and 420 nm in wavelength, placing it between blue and violet. Color scientists do not usually recognize indigo as a significant color category, and generally classify wavelengths shorter than about 450 nm as violet.
Reply:Indigo is not deep blue, violet is already a hue and so is indigo. I would have to say it is closer to violet than deep blue. Watercolours are transparent when used correctly, and most paints from tubes are darker but it does not mean that the true character of that hue is dark. What you are speaking of are tints of indigo. Whatever your preference but it's neither.
