Brand for Boy and Violet for Girl?

I am tossing around some names. I've like the name Brand ever since the movie Goonies (that's the older brother's name). My husband suggested Violet for a girl's name, and he is usually off the wall with names. I liked it. The last name is Murphy. What do you think?

Violet is a beautiful name. I wanted to name my daughter that, but then I realized that everyone on the planet wants to name their daughter that. It is so overused. Your daughter will be one in a gazillion violets. Sad, but true.

Violet is very pretty and it's also uncommon. It's not one of my faves, but I like it.

Reply:I think that both sound great. You and your husband are the parents and whatever names you choose will always be special in what it means to you. Granted, even though some people nowadays choose some pretty strange names for their kids it is still their choice. The names you are considering are aren't strange at all. Reply:The goonies is one of my favorite movies ever, but please don't name your child Brand. Brandon is a good suggestion because his teachers and everyone else who goes to read his name will call him Brandon anyway thinking Brand is a typo. Besides, if I was goin to pick a baby name from the Goonies I'd definately go with Sloth or Chunk ; ).
Reply:Violet is a very cute girls name. I'm not sure I like Brand, but Brandon is a good male name. Let the baby decide later if he wants it shortened and everyone to call him Brand.

Reply:Well, I absolutely love Violet. I'd definitely consider it if Scarlett wasn't already my favorite girl name, lol. I will use it in the middle name spot for another daughter.



I always thought that the character's name from Goonies was Brandt. But, I checked imdb.com and you are right about Brand! I am not sure what to think about it! I sort of like it, but it sort of borders between sounding nicknam-ish (for Brandon) and too wordy (like a brand of clothing). It could grow on me, though!
