my classmate said that both violet n' purple is/are the same

I think violet is a shade of purple

Reply:Almost, but they gotta be different - that's why they have different names ! Violet being slightly Lighter with perhaps a little more of a reddish Hew. Many colours(colors) are only distinguishable by the slightest of differences, the graduations being as subtle as moving from Grey to Black in slow progression.-as in the pencil exercise.

p.s. lighten-up a Red, it becomes Pink - it dosen't stay a 'lighter shade of Red' !
