List the major steps, in sequence, needed to perform the Schaeffer-Fulton and crystal violet staining methods.

In my microbiology course, this is how we did the Schaeffer-Fulton stain:

heat fixed slides were flooded with malachite green and kept over a hot water bath for 10 minutes

slides were rinsed with water and then flooded with safranin and allowed to sit for 1 minute. Rinse with water, dry and you're good to go.

The Gram stain (crystal violet)

heat fix the slide, flood with crystal violet and let sit for 1 minute, rinse with water.

Flood the slide with iodine for 1 minute, rinse with water again.

Rinse with alcohol to decolorize for 20 seconds.

Then, flood with safranin for 30 seconds, rinse with water and dry.
