What color is created when you mix yellow and violet?

Depends how much of each. This combination in oil painting is used to tone down the yellow so it is not as intense. If you would mix the two you would get a tone down yellow orange color.

What color is created when you mix yellow and violet?
A neutral color.
Reply:These are complimentary colours. A primary with a secondary so what you are going to get is a tertiary! That is ... a yellow grey, or a violet grey depending on what amount of the complimentary is added the other complimentary colour. For example: if you have 90% yellow and add 10% violet you are going to get a yellow grey. If you have 90% violet and add 10% yellow then you are going to get a violet grey. If you mix them 50% %26amp; 50% then you end up with MUD.

Whatever colour you want to tone down or show the shadows in you add a little of the complimentary. To darken red you would add green to darken green you would add red.

Here's the problem with this. You are mixing a tertiary so if you aren't careful you can end up with MUD!

When mixing your colours always be careful of the addition you put in, particularly with tertiaries.
Reply:brownish grey
Reply:Depends on the precise shades of yellow %26amp; violet. When I mix cadmium yellow w/prism violet, for example, I get a kind of greenish mud.
Reply:yellow and violet are complementaries so when you mix them they neutralise each other - there is a name for these mixed complementaries but I can't remember just now. They are useful as they harmonise with their parent colours
Reply:usually i get a muddy brownish grey if using acryllics.
Reply:it's a good way to make grey, depending on how much you use of each color
