What do you think of the name violet?
I absolutely adore the name!



I like Violet best paired with a three- or four-syllable middle name. Because Violet is stressed on the first syllable, I prefer a middle name that is not.

If your last name is really long, then a one-syllable middle name might sound better:

I would avoid a name that could sound like a phrase when paired with violet. For example, I don't really like Violet Rose, Violet Snow, or Violet Skye.

Reply:I don't like it that much cuz it sounds like an old name, but that's why Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck named their baby girl. You should just name it what you guys like. Strangely enough, Violet Rose sounds pretty.

Reply:I certainly wouldn't say it's "too" old-fashioned, especially given its current rise (thanks to the celeb usage). In fact, Violet has become one of the hot "new" comebacks. Not yet as common as Emily, Olivia, Amelia and the like, but definitely on a steady upward climb.



In fact, I generally suggest variant Viola to those who ARE seeking an underused classic, to somewhat sidestep Violet's popularity (yes, popularity). ;) It's currently around the 250 mark, and has been rising by the HUNDREDS each year.



I'd use an equally classic, charming middle name -- nearly any would work beautifully! -- but be cautious about avoiding another obvious word name. Other than that, the possibilities are rather endless. ;)

Reply:I like it. There's no such thing as old-fashioned names. If they're good, they'll stick around. If not, their owners will outlive them and it will be unfortunate. How about Violet Emarie or Violet Elise?
