What do you think of the new Coldplay single, "Violet Hill?"?

Brian Eno has left his mark of the band's fourth album, Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends, and so far I'm really liking it! It conveys a much darker tone than what they did with the last album and most of what they did with their first two.

What do you think of the new Coldplay single, "Violet Hill?"?
I think it's great. Coldplay are always at their best when they're darker (some of their best songs came from their darker, before-Parachutes stage) and Violet Hill has a whole bunch of great intertwined melodies. At first it sounds like something totally new, but the song actually has quite a bit of the old Coldplay, and I'm happy about that because i was scared they were going to take a completely different approach to EVERYTHING. And woah, the lyrics are awesome! Very intense, very powerful, very abstract. Chris is questioning religion and all kinds of things in this song, love it!

and i do like the dark vibe. its very different.

to me it kind of sounds like a blend of everything they've ever done all mixed together.



i am in love with this song. very well done.



except i have tried the free download, and it doesn't work on my computer. it sucks. but i can wait to buy the single.
Reply:Strange effect used on Chris Martins voice, was a bit strange at first because I am used to the clarity of his voice. When I heard that first cheesy guitar line come in I thought that was the end, however it was redeemed by the hypnotic bass line and appropriate guitar.



A clear difference. If you showed me the music without the vocals, I would have certainly told you it isn't Coldplay.

Reply:I absolutely love their new song. I've listened to it about 100 times. :D It's so great, especially the lyrics, which are fantastic. Even though it's sort of different from all their album's made previously, I think it's utterly brilliant!

Reply:I love the lyrics .. but I think muscially it is a bit repetitive of their old style.
