Has anyone ever used gentian violet to cure oral thrush in newborns?
It doesn't actually cure it Report It
Reply:We did -- worked great!
Reply:Not me personally, but I know a *lot* of women who have. In fact, it's probably the most effective treatment for thrush available today. As for when and how to use it, please see the sources section below. This is written by a doctor who is an expert at helping breastfeeding mothers and babies. Gentian violet, even though it is an over-the-counter medication, is really potent, and you want to be sure to have *expert* instructions, not just someone who writes in and says "here's what I did".
Reply:That is the ONLY thing that worked with my first son. You just use a Q-tip to swab the inside of his mouth. The doc says this is all they used to give but most parents hated the purple stains. If you are nursing, swab your areolas' as well. Twice a day will take care of it. We usually only had to do it for a few days. It STAINS!!!! My son's mouth looked purple and then blue... scares most people.
Reply:i breastfed my daughter and we both got thrush probably 5 times in 7 months, we just both took diflucan at the same time, I've never heard of gentian violet. Is it a prescription?
Reply:Yes, worked like a charm. Keep using it though. Scary looking stuff, isn't it?
