I just bought a new microscope, and am really eager to start observing - ! But I don't know where to buy the dyes necessary for observation of certain cellular structures, as well as the alcohols and other useful substances. Is there a store somewhere that specifically sells them - or do I have to order online or through a catalog? I'm also looking for a fairly cheap option here... and I won't be needing big quantities of the stuff, so buying in bulk is not on my mind.
Where do I buy biological dyes such as crystal violet or methylene blue?
go to supply sites like fisher scientific. they have a lot of the stuff you want. you can save money by looking at how the dyes are constituted and making them yourself
Reply:If you are still in school, perhaps approach a professor who may provide you with some or at least tell you where to get some. I was able to purchase all of my microscope accessories (scalpels, probes, dyes, slides/covers, eye droppers, etc.) in a kit at a little hobby store for a very reasonable price (%26lt;$20).
Reply:Ebay is one option. I just looked and there is a general staining kit available at http://cgi.ebay.com/Vital-Stain-Kit-6-Di...
Another option is this company, but the quantity might be more than you want: http://www.emsdiasum.com/microscopy/prod...
