What are the best outdoor plants?

I just got an apartment with my bf, and we live just north of Dallas with an east facing balcony. I'm trying to find some plants for indoor and outdoor...what are the prettiest yet something I won't kill? I'm also trying my hand at an African Violet, a mint plant, and some kind of tree my mom gave me. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks a bunch!

What are the best outdoor plants?
azaleas, begonias, roses, morning glory vines, impatiens, jade plant, and many more do well with an eastern exposure. Facing east, plants avoid the hot afternoon sun and should do fine in pots on the balcony.

Inside you could try "cast iron or closet plant" Ficus trees, dracaenas, "dumbcane plant" swedish ivy, or even Boston Ferns.

Get a good garden book (Sunset is my favorite) and study and fuss over your plants, don't over water and you'll have lots of happy plants to enjoy.
Reply:If you're plants are only going to get morning sun then you're best to plant azaleas, rhododendrons, camellias and foliage plants like - cabbage grass, yucca's and succulents.
